Visual Story Telling | johnna brooke photography

Let me tell you a story of a little boy…

There was once a little boy that was bored!  A little boy that was bored because his brothers were at school.  He was all alone.

The little boy complained about being bored. The little boy complained about being bored so much that his mother sent him outside to play.  She said, "Go outside and play.  Make something.  Build something.  Do something. Run. Be Free. Use Your Imagination."
Picture
The little boy went outside to play.  He made something.  He made snowballs.  He made lots of snowballs.  He used his imagination. He did something.  He played. He made snowballs.  He made more snowballs.

The little boy was not bored but he grew tired of making snowballs.  The little boy waited for his brothers to come home from school.  He waited and waited and waited.  He was not bored. Then the little boy thought that he would use his snowballs to attack his brothers.  It would be an ambush.  He was a general.  He was a little green army man.  He used his imagination. He did something.  He played. He made something.  He made snowballs.  He made more snowballs.  He waited. He was not bored. He was a general marching in the snow with fresh snowballs, ready to attack the enemy.  Imagine That!

He waited and waited and waited some more! UNTIL…….
Picture
Picture
…his brothers came home from school.  He attacked.  They ran. He ran. And they all smiled.

The broken scattered snowballs began to melt, just like the little boy's memory; he never remembered being bored!  The end.

Hope you enjoyed the story!  Until next time, don't let your memories melt, snap some pictures! Thanks for stopping by!

I am so very excited to share the following news with all of you.

I have expanded my photography business to include  - Design!

It is something that I have been working on for a while and have decided that it was about time I just do it!  For years I have been helping friends with all types of design work; helping them start web sites, blogs, creating logos and print materials, such as, business cards, postcards, flyers, brochures, etc…

I think that now that my children are older and I have more time on my hands, I should do what I love to do and help other people realize their dreams, too!  Most people never pull the trigger when thinking of starting a business, as they get so overwhelmed with  all the "business stuff".  That is where I will come in…

My whole focus will be on local small business and entrepreneurs!  My hopes are to help them from the ground up!  Give them a little push!  So yes, I will also be working as a consultant, too!

Simple . Affordable . Effective

I still have lots to do on my site but feel free to take a look around!  And please, if you know a small business or local entrepreneur who just might need a little push or a little help, send them my way!  I am ready.

Life | Personal Work | Lifestyle Photography

So last post, I promised to add more personal "stuff" to my blog - here goes.  As I mentioned in the earlier post, I do not have time to keep my personal blog up to date, so I will be using the blog to bang out some fun.  Most of you know that I participate in the 365 Project and try to take one photo a day of my boys.  I love this project; especially when I can look back at a completed year!

I feel so fulfilled and blessed and happy and some times even sad to see just how much my boys have changed.  This month, I have been trying to get away from taking just portraits of the boys and really trying hard to focus on the "life" captures.  Here are a couple photos that I totally love!

Merge | Personal Work | johnna brooke photography

My mother just recently asked me why I have not updated my personal blog in so long and the answer was…"I just can't do it all." So, 2012 will see the merging of my personal and work life.

For years, I have been writing a blog about my life as a stay at home mother to three little boys, unfortunately, my life has totally gotten even more crazy and even more busy than before; I have decided to include snippets of my personal life and personal work into this blog.  No, I will not be sharing all the mundane details of our life but I will throw in a tad of chaos just to spice this up a bit.

I am on my third year of taking one photo a day of one of my three little boys.  The photos in this collection are not always great photos and a lot of the time, I am capturing photos via my cell phone.  These pictures are just a way of looking back and are by no means ex  You can view past 365 projects and the start of 2012 by clicking the photos below.

So here is to my Merge!  Happy New Year and may 2012 be a great year for you all.

High School Senior Portrait Session | Cumberland Foreside, Falmouth and Yarmouth, Maine Photographer

I know that it has been a while since I last blogged; I have been so very busy.  I have more sessions to blog about!  Keep checking back for updates.

You have no idea how extremely grateful I am to all my returning clients and, of course, my new clients, too!  I feel so very lucky to be able to do what I love!  This

Here are some photos of a recent High School Senior Portrait Session that I photographed in North Yarmouth, Maine at Sky Line Farm.  If you have never been to the Farm and Carriage Museum, I would recommend taking a visit. I had so much fun with this young woman and thanks to her, I have added this location to my favorite places to photograph sessions.  I really don't think a lot of people know about their public trails.  Check out their website to learn more.

Friends and Family | Ft. Williams Family Session | Portland, Maine Lifestyle Photographer

I spent some time with a friend…

Yes, the beautiful mother in the following photographs is my friend.  We have know each other for almost 20 years.  I can't believe that I just typed 20 years.  It seems just like yesterday we were both working for Ralph Lauren!  Oh, the fruitful 90's - What a decade; we were young, independent, we traveled tons, we worked really really hard and we hung with some fabulous people.  I should also mention that this client is somewhat responsible for me marrying my husband.  Yes, she might have pushed the issue just a little; my husband also worked for Ralph Lauren and they were good friends and co-workers!

Any way, this was a special session for me and one that I enjoyed so very much!   Thanks, my dear friend, for asking me to document this day through photographs; I had a blast and loved watching your family through my lens!   You guys have something really great going on!

So here is a preview!  I want to add every single photo….

I love these brothers.  They make me laugh…a lot!  This is my second year in a row photographing their family and I am hoping to do it year after year until they both head off to college!

The photos that I am sharing right now are some of my favorites from their session.  I like the silly photos, the candids and the photos that capture fleeting moments; that is what life is all about - the small little moments.

My Play Date | Ft. Williams, Cape Elizabeth Family Photography | Maine Child Photographer

Today, I had a play date with a very handsome and active three year old.  We visited an old fort, hiked some trails, played on a playscape, walked to a duck pond and even threw some rocks into the ocean; I had a blast.  I loved this session.  Notice that there are no real posed shots, all the photos that were captured today were candids.  I love every single photo that came out of my camera and wish I could post them all so that everyone can see that there is no need to get stressed during a photo session - be you and let your children be who they are.  I promise to capture some memorable shots!

Thanks friends for a repeat session and for allowing me to hang with you today.  I can't wait to do it again next year!  By the way, Happy Birthday to one very adorable three year old.
